What to Bring

Alpine Hut Deka offers comfortable accommodation, delicious Georgian food, modern equipment hire, and mountain adventures directly out of our door. At 3020m above sea level, you can warm up and refuel at our hut, but be sure to bring the right kit for your visit or stay. And always plan for variable and extreme mountain conditions at this altitude.

You can dig into our recommendations on what to bring for summer or winter trips, and overnight stays.

If you’re planning to travel on the glacier or climb a peak, we strongly recommend you use a qualified guide. Contact us if you’d like help organising this.

Travel Light

If you prefer lightweight packing and travel, we have options for you! Mountain equipment is available for hire at the hut – keep your baggage costs down, and enjoy a lighter hike up to reach Alpine Hut Deka. Or take advantage of horse porters to carry larger bags and tents up to Deka from Sameba Trinity Church. You can check out options to help you travel light when you visit.

Getting Here

Alpine Hut Deka sits above the town of Stepantsminda. Head out of town to Sameba Trinity Church (also referred to as Gergeti Trinity Church). Parking is available at the church. Our mountain hut is only accessible on foot or horseback and the trailhead starts at the parking area. The hike from Sameba Trinity Church (2170m) to Deka hut (3020m) takes 2-4 hours.

If you’re planning to travel on the glacier or climb a peak, we strongly recommend you use a qualified guide. Contact us if you’d like help organising this.
